Metrolink adventure on 7/26/2014

James and I went on an adventure yesterday.  We did the Metrolink. He had been asking for this for some time.  He went to bed on Friday saying that he's so so excited, he won't be able to sleep.  Two minutes later, he was snoring.

We took the gold line to Union Station.  There we bought day passes from a machine, $10/ apiece.  We got on the Orange County train at 8:50am.
It's a double decker. James calls it a triple decker, but really the seats between the first and second floor don't count as separate deck.

The train was spacious and started out uncrowded.  It's different from the gold line.  You can eat and drink and there are even some seats with a
table.  We picked up some passengers along the way, but was still very comfortable.

We got off at the San Juan Capistrano stop.  It was a party.  Retired folks greeted those deboarding and there well scrubbed people gathered in their beach best.  The weather was great.  It was sunny and warm, but not hot, and there was a nice breeze.

We went to Mission, and overpaid.  We paid $14.00, and stayed about 30 minutes.  It felt like a rip off, because it was.  There was even a functioning church that was open to the public. The chapel was occupied by some private affair.

We stayed down there for about an hour and a half, and then got on the returning train. Union Station was hot and crowded, but it felt like home.

Events of July 18, 2006

The events of July 18, 2006, were the culmination of a 10 month courtship.  This is the day my gorgeous girlfriend became my gorgeous wife.

We got married at 9:15 am at the Norwalk courthouse before a very cordial, yet efficient, justice of the peace.  Taoski slipped a $120 ring on my finger, the cheapest we could find, and I put an old family ring her finger.  My brother Dave showed up 10 minutes late, and missed the whole thing.  After the ceremony, we were issued marriage certificates on the spot.

We went for a celebratory breakfast at a coffee shop.  Tao thinks Denny's.  I remember IHOP.  After that, we took a tour of the San Pedro Harbor.  A month later we had a 4 day honeymoon at Catalina Island.

My Dad created the above flier announcing the good news, which we distributed to some family here after the fact and sent to China.

wolves in sheep's clothing

If you're a doctor who got rich from taking kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies to poison injured workers and their kids, then you're a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Explaining 4th of July to James

James asked me what the 4th of July was about.

I told him way back when there were no people here in America. Then some people called Indian who kind of looked like your Mommy came up from Asia and crossed an icebridge far up in the North and came down. Then some people who kind of looked like your Daddy came on boats across the and killed them with small pox infested blankets. Then these newcomers went to another place and got a bunch of other people called slaves to come here and forced them to work for them. Then on the 4th of July these people with the slaves who killed the Indians asserted their God given inalienable right to life, liberty and property, and that is the birthday of the United States, your country.

Is this is a proper history lesson?
